Recruitment Tests - verbal

Verbal Tests

  • Multiple choice tests (A,B,C,D), which check your ability to read with comprehension and reason logically
  • Do not require prior knowledge of any specific field, nor expertise in grammar or spelling. Each test consists of short passages of text, which you have to read in order to answer the questions that follow, with either “True”, “False” or “Cannot say”
  • Time limit varies but it is usually 30 minutes for one test (30 questions)
  • What you should know

  • Reading with comprehension is an essential skill that cannot be fully evaluated by taking a look at one's resume, cover letter or during an interview. For that reason more and more employers turn to verbal tests.
  • While taking a test you will notice that time pressure makes comprehension and reasoning more difficult than it would seem to be.
  • It is a very popular method of recruitment as it is fully objective and clearly shows the level of skills that a candidate possesses. Everyone has equal chances of success while taking such tests as they eliminate any possibility of prejudice based on gender, race, appearance, name, etc. on the part of the recruiter.
  • Being a fast reader, although certainly very helpful in life, is not the most important thing when it comes to verbal tests as they are all about analytic skills and quick reasoning.
